Specifications
The Bay 21 is an open water recreational rowing shell developed by Bill Tytus, owner of Pocock Racing Shells, Inc., and Paul R. Harvey of Bay Shells, Inc.
The boat is designed as an intermediate recreational rowing shell
challenging and fun for the experienced sculler and less tippy than a racing shell for the new rower. Originally designed for rowers 130 to 175 lbs., the Bay 21 has been the winning boat for a 115-lb. rower in the women's Northwest Regional Championships. The Bay 21 is also used for recreational rowers up 225 lbs. at the Calm Waters Rowing camp in Virginia, where Coach John Dunne comments that it is the only recreational shell he has seen for rowers that size.
The Bay 21 • $3,100
• 21 feet, 3 inches in length at the waterline, with a maximum beam of 16 inches
• Constructed of high-quality fiberglass
• Weighs 38 pounds fully rigged, 32 with the rigger removed
• Has an anodized ‘A’ frame aluminum rigger that connects to the cockpit using four stainless steel
bolts for quick, easy removal
• Features Concept II sculling oarlocks for easy adjustment of pitch and oarlock height
• If you need oars, Bay Shells also carries the Drew Harrison hatch-bladed fiberglass recreational sculls
for $290 a pair.
The ‘deck-in’ design provides a rigid hull line so that the Bay 21 can be easily stored upside-down, and can be easily transported on a standard car-top rack. The length fits easily into most garages.
The Bay 21 is manufactured by Pocock Racing Shells at its plant in Everett, Washington, using the same exacting standards as its world-class racing shells. You will find that all parts and fittings are the same as on the famous Pocock racing shells.

A Bay 21 Open Water Rowing Shell demonstration boat is available at the Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle. Contact Bay Shells for a row.
